Amazing Villa

I had planed our dream trip to Italy for over a year. We wanted to stay in a villa but there are so many to choose from and how do you know where to stay. After many hours looking in most areas of Tuscany I found Villa Giardo. We could not have found a better place to stay. Silvia and Stefano offered so much help and information regarding the area and were always so fast to reply to my emails. Their home is beautiful. We were a family of 8 and had more than enough room. Each bedroom is decorated beautifuly and very comfortable. The living room is cozy and has a fireplace. Great spot to unwind after a busy day. Kitchen plenty big enough to fit everyone while preparing dinner. Ask Silvia and Stefano to prepare a meal for you. Best meal we had in Italy. The grounds and the view are amazing. We were there in March so not much in bloom but still lush and green. I would highly recommend this villa and hope to return one day. Thank you Silvia and Stephano for sharing your home with us. Best week ever!

Spent an incredible week here this past September. The villa was beautiful and the hosts were marvelous. Located between Greve in Chianti and Figline Valdarno, the villa is convenient to the train at Figline for our trips to Florence; or using the rental car for day trips to the hill towns of San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and the city of Siena. Our group of three couples also wandered further afield with guided tours to Rome(a long but rewarding day) and to the Cinque Terre. Our vacation in Tuscany was amazing and the highlight was our "home" at Villa Giardo. Stephano and Silvia treated us like old friends, even cooking and serving us a six course dinner after a great day in Florence.Would recommend this piece of heaven to everyone! A slice of heaven in the Chianti region

My husband and I rented this villa for 10 weeks ( late July- mid October) as a way to mark the beginning of his retirement. We couldn't have made a better choice to kick off this new chapter in our lives. First, Silvia, Stefano and their son Andrea, were amazing hosts. They were helpful, kind and have created a wonderful, peaceful home with a true sense of heart. The house itself is incredibly charming, and the surrounding views from every terrace are just what you dream Tuscany to be; rolling hills, with grapevines and olive trees abounding. Whether we were having coffee in the morning, reading in the afternoon or having a pre-dinner cocktail, it was incredible. I honestly felt like I was living inside a postcard! There are many adventures to be had away from the house as well. We would have local pizza every week (at least once) in the nearby town, Lucelena. We went to several hill top towns to climb towers and eat classic Tuscan fare. San Gimignano, Pienza, Radda, Castellina (excellent gelato) to name a few. We shopped in Greve at the market, and experienced the wine festival there at harvest time. We saw the paleo race in Sienna, climbed the tower in Pisa and visited Florence on the train at least 6 times! The options for adventure are endless, as the location of il Giardo is central to the entire Tuscan region. There was plenty of room to have 3 couples (and a few bambini) to visit. Everyone absolutely loved the house, the family and the Chianti region. It truly is a slice of heaven. We will return. And when you come, make sure to have Silvia cook a meal for you. Silvia is an outstanding cook, and Stefano provides excellent company. They are a match made in heaven. Cheers to your adventure in Greve at Giardo. We miss it every day! John & Lynn's adventure, CT

Spectacular Tuscan Villa

Having been to Italy for several tours, five couples (cousins) rented Villa Giardo for two weeks this past October. We wanted a different kind of vacation, slower paced, with time to savor the area. The villa had been recommended to us by friends who had been there the previous year so we knew we were in for a treat. It exceeded our expectations. The view from the stone terrace was magnificent & much time was spent sitting there with a glass of chianti wine. We had rented a car in Rome and drove to Figline & found the road to Greve & thereafter used Silvia's very helpful directions (with photos)to find the villa. (A GPS becomes useless after you get on the roads nearer the villa). The dirt road the last few miles to the villa is bumpy and the driveway at the house is a bit steep but a fun challenge! The villa interior is spacious & spectacular...a combination of rustic and elegant with crystal chandeliers and a stone fireplace. 4 of the 5 bedrooms have queen or king beds with bathrooms. One upstairs room has 2 twin beds and a half bath nearby). The owners, Silvia & Stefano, live at the end of the villa in their own apartment so they are close by if you have a question for them; yet you never see them at your end of the villa. It was the perfect combination of privacy & assistance in case you had a question about a restaurant or directions. They are wonderful people who love sharing this beautiful property with others..we cannot say enough about them and their darling son! Our routine was to take leisurely day trips by car, to Greve, to Radda, to San Gimignano, wander around the town or market day kiosks, find a restaurant & have a fabulous mid day meal (seafood pasta & cinghali (boar stew) are not to be missed! Then back at the villa by night, we would play cards, sit on the terrace, & make our own light dinner. We went by train to Florence for a day (parking in Figline) and took a high speed train to Venice for an overnight trip during our 2 weeks there. We all said this was the best trip any of us have ever taken to Italy. The weather was lovely during our stay. We were lucky enough to see and hear wild boar several times. We felt like real Tuscans by the time we left, having made friends with several local merchants in Greve (the wine store) & several restaurant owners who were so friendly when we returned again. It was truly the trip of a lifetime for those who want to experience the heart and soul of Italy which is found in Tuscany. Suzanne, New York, USA

Wonderful villa, lovely views and best meal!

We spent one week at villa Giardo in June. We just loved the ambiance, Silvia and Stefano have created a beautiful oasis in Tuscany. All the photos and descriptions don't do the villa justice. The last half mile of driving is not for the faint of heart, but worth it! Plus, we saw cinghale (wild boar) mamas and babies twice at night on our way home! By all means see if Silvia and Stefano can fix you a dinner, it was one of our our best meals in Italy. They also can send you to restaurants all over the place, and did not steer us wrong once! We sure hope to be able to come back - and Mille Grazie Silvia and Stefano, it was such a great anniversary week for us and our kids! Erna S, Bozeman

Great family reunion

At our 3rd stay in Tuscany we found this wonderful place. Eight adults and four children and no congestion at all. All families could have their privacy and come together at the pool, in the kitchen and at the great terasse table. It is almost a must to arrive in own or rented car, using a GPS or the most recent updated pictorial guidance. Plenty of playing tools for children. Bikes are available but hard to use in the closest dirt road. House was well equipped and we lacked only a few kitchen tools ( garlic crusher, whip for whipping cream/omelette). House wine and olive oil available at self cost. No local shop for bread, groceries etc, but necessary to go some 20 km to Coop supermarket. Excellent small family restaurants available nearby plus the great kindness of Silva to arrange a super Italian dinner in the villa. Best we have eaten so far in Tuscany. Only minus we experienced was: Many small ants in the kitchen area. Slightly cool pool water (22C). Tomas, Sweden

This was paradise

Our entire adult family, consisting of three couples rented Il Giardo for a week. The pictures on the website do not do the place justice. The villa accommodated us all extremely well and our hosts were so helpful as well. Each bedroom has it's own full bathroom. Additionally there are multiple places for people to sit, congregate, read. And eat. The grounds are simply stunning and beautifully kept. The owner, Silvia, will arrange to cook dinner for guests if it is arranged ahead of time. We did this and the five course meal with wines and digestifs was simply wonderful and prepared with great care. Additionally, the villa is decorated with great care and attention to detail. I simply can't imagine a more wonderful place for a family vacation. Beth C.

Heaven in Chianti

Villa Giardo is one of the unusual places where the reality is even more splendid than the website photos and description. The views of Tuscan hills, vineyards and olive groves from the villa's hilltop terrace are unforgettable. The accommodations are more than ample and the furnishings are very attractive and comfortable. Silvia and Stefano are wonderful hosts - attentive and helpful with excellent recommendations of local restaurants and sights, and available to address any question or problem, but very careful not to be intrusive. We had Silvia prepare a dinner for us (7 adults) that was a true feast - the best meal we had in Italy. Like Heaven, Villa Giardo is challenging to get to the first time, Your GPS will take you only so far. It's advisable to call Silvia when you reach the La Piscina cut off from the road to Lucolena to have Stefano come and guide you in. Watch for the sign on the left as you approach Lucolena from the south. Once you know the way, it's no problem. Kevin, New Canaan

Magnificent Il Giardo

When we arrived at Il Giardo, I felt like I was in a movie. The grounds are exquisite, flowers everywhere and beautiful views wherever we turned. Then we entered the house. Our expectations were high and the building, decorations and furnishings far exceeded our expectations. This was our 4th trip to Italy. Silvia and Stefano have provided a perfect environment for a Tuscany vacation. My husband and I were celebrating our 50th anniversary with our daughters, their spouses and our two teenage granddaughters. The house was laid out so that each couple had their own private en suite room in different parts of the house. Every morning and evening we gathered together in the large dining room or on the adjoining terrace where we ate most of our meals. After days spent touring San Gimingnano, Siena, Greve, and Arezzo we gathered at the pool for swimming in cool well water or sunbathing on one of the 8 lounges. The girls and men enjoyed the fooz ball and ping pong tables. While available no one used the archery equipment. We dined on bistecca Fiorentino at the Borgo Antico in Greve and ate pizza at the local Lucolena restaurant, where we were the only tourists. We had fabulous gelato in Castellina. Market days in Radda and in Panzano (rotisserie chicken) were very special. My family visited a local winery for a tour which they loved . Of course we drank delicious Chianti every night, each one better than the other. Silvia prepared a sumptuous anniversary dinner, with crostini starters, two pasta courses, wonderful prosciutto, caprese, luscious roast beef, and culminating in a spectacular fruit-tiramisu cake. Our only regret is not having more of Silvia's dinners. We spent lovely evenings on the terrace watching terrific sunsets, drinking delicious wines, and laughing over the days spent in this exquisite place. Three generations adored Il Giardo. Silvia and Stefano were wonderfully accommodating, providing good advice about local sights, eating, and shopping. (They had been very helpful during the planning stages as well.) The drive up to the house does present a challenge, but the destination more than compensates. Recommended without reservation. Susan, Huntingdon Valley, U.S.A.

Delightful,Charming and Trully Amazing Experience at IL GIARDO

Il GIARDO is an ANCIENT CHARMING LUXURY VILLA located in a peaceful region of Chianti. Prepare to see something beyond imagination when you are welcomed in the house of Silvia and Stefano. Recently, my boyfriend and I had the opportunity to spend a few days at this amazing villa in the heart of Tuscany. It was a dream come true and an experience beyond expectations. We were given specific instructions on how to get there and the welcome was trully warm. The Villa is beyond comfortable and it stays true to the authentic Tuscan style without sacrificing comfort. TRUE LUXURY combined with functionality and elegance. Make sure to take advantage, if time permits and Silvia is available, and ask for an Italian style dinner. Silvia is not only a greacefull hostess but an amazing chef as well. My Italian boyfriend was really impressed with her cooking skills, and I will have a hard time finding someone who can make such food once I return to USA. Take your time to enjoy the pool and grounds around the villa, Stefano does a great job keeping the landscape beautyful and they even have solar energy. Even the most avid environmentalist travelers would be pleased. My boyfriend and I were beyond happy with the accommodations and with the amazing hospitality that our hosts Silvia and Stefano treated us during the entire stay . We are looking forward to returning to Toscana and most deffinetly will stay at Villa GIARDO. I recommend this place to everyone who is looking to spend some time in this amazing corner of Heaven, Tuscany. Jerry Boyne, Chicago

Absolutely beautiful, inside & out

We just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy, and this villa was definitely one of the main highlights. We stayed with quite a large group -- 2 families with 4 adults and 8 children (ages 5-14). Since the listing states it sleeps 9-11 we expected to be a little cramped, but in fact there was ample room for everyone. The master bedroom and the outbuilding were perfect for the two adult couples, and the additional bedrooms easily accommodated 3/3/2 children. All the rooms were beautifully restored and maintained, and there were amazing views from every room. Even though the house has a wonderfully old character, it does not lack for modern conveniences. The villa is situated very privately, and it was great for the kids to have plenty of room to roam without worrying about disturbing anyone. We did some day trips (the villa is convenient to many great locations), but also spent some days relaxing there. The kids never got bored -- they swam in the pool, used the gym, caught tadpoles in the little pond, played with the dogs, and ran around the fields. There were various sitting and lounging areas all around the villa, all making a great place to sit and read or have a glass of wine while taking in the views. Silvia and Stefano were very welcoming and helpful. They really went above and beyond what we expected. We had many problems finding the villa (see below!) and arrived much, much later than planned -- and our friends were even worse off because they were biking there and the roads are very steep. Stefano and his friend went off to rescue them, brought some of the children back, and Stefano helped them push their bikes up the steep, unpaved final kilometer. It was late and everyone was exhausted, and Silvia then made us a big pot of pasta so we didn't have to go out! She also left us a wonderful tiramisu in the fridge. One warning is that the villa isn't easy to find! Make sure you have good directions, a good map, and ideally a GPS! Jen, NH

Magical House and Views in Tuscany

My husband, 10-year-old daughter and I took our two moms for an Italian vacation. After spending several fun days sightseeing in Rome, we took the train to Tuscany, ready for the relaxing portion of our trip! Everything about Villa Giardo exceeded our expectations. Silvia is a superb hostess. She gave us a tour of the house and grounds and told us about the renovations she and her husband Stefano have made. It was fascinating to get the background story of this beautiful building. Silvia also made recommendations for dining, grocery shopping and sightseeing, all of which was very helpful. It was nice to have the local perspective. She also cooked a fabulous dinner for us the night of our arrival. We felt truly welcome and immediately felt at home. Silvia has a very engaging personality and is very easy to talk to, not to mention a great chef! The house is spacious, clean, comfortable and warmly decorated. We loved all the interior stone work and beautiful chandeliers in particular. The attention and care spent on this house is evident in every room. And there were so many windows to showcase those incredible views! The pictures only provide an inkling of how truly spectacular the house and views are. It's so stunning that it seems almost surreal. We spent many hours outside, just enjoying the view. It was very hard to tear ourselves away to go exploring around Tuscany, and we ended up doing a lot less exploring than we anticipated because we wanted more time to enjoy the villa. There are lots of activities to choose from at the villa.....we swam every day and played ping-pong and archery. The fitness room has every piece of equipment one could possibly want. Two things to consider: the villa does have lots of steps, so is not ideal for the very young/very old. Also, the driveway up to the villa is steep, but Silvia does a great job instructing you on proper technique. On leaving, we only had one complaint: our time there was far too short! We would highly recommend Villa Giardo (and already have!) to those looking for an unbelievable setting from which to soak in life in Tuscany. And the longer the trip, the better! Thank you so much, Silvia and Stefano, for sharing your beautiful home with us! Corinne, McKinney

Cousins Retreat

Four Swedish cousins from the USA spent a tranquil week at Villa Giardo. We knew we were in for a treat from the minute Silvia greeted us and provided us with everything we needed to know to maximize our Tuscan adventure. We ate at most of the restaurants she recommended and weren't disappointed. The villa has several outdoor seating areas, all with beautiful views. The pool is in a slightly sheltered area, so even though the days were cool, we were able to swim. The location of the villa is ideal. We were able to take the train to Florence from Figline-Valdarno. Parking at the station was close and the train ride was only 30 or 35 minutes. This was my third visit to Tuscany and by far the best accommodation. Ruth, USA

tuscan family fun!

Villa Giardo was an ideal place for our two families and one uncle to spend a week in paradise! The location is ideal, the amenities are outstanding and Sylvia is an amazing cook and resource. The pictures on the website are just an indication of how beautiful and wonderful the setting is - we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere while we were actually very close to many many things! Sylvia goes above and beyond to make sure all your needs are met - even ordering more arrows when the kids in our group fell in love with the archery range and there was only one arrow in the quiver - Sylvia had more ordered and delivered! The pool was refreshing and everything about the villa seemed like a little slice of heaven. The drive way is exciting...but worth it! Cate B, Texas

Tuscan paradise

Beautiful, gracious, peaceful, natural, comfortable, spacious, magical. That is as close as I can get to conveying the feelings of my group of 7 friends (50-60 years of age) who stayed at Villa Giardo in late May 2012. At our annual reunion in September 2011 we decided to get together for a Tuscan villla vacation in late spring 2012 and I was drafted to do the research and develop a short list list of properties that met the following requirements: authentic old Tuscan look and feel inside and out, but with modern plumbing/electrical/wireless Internet, luxurious but casual, spacious, reasonably-priced, 4 bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms including shower and North-American style queen-sized mattress (not 2 twin beds tied together to make a large bed as many villas offer), large outdoor patio with large table suitable for 'al fresco' dining, large property, no road noise, no visible commercial development, situated somewhere in Tuscany with easy access to Florence, Siena, and some of the beautiful mountains scattered throught the Tuscan countryside. Villa Giardo had it all in spades. What you see in the website photos is exactly what you get. The place was immaculately kept and clean inside and out, and the icing on the cake is Silvia, who owns the villa along with her husband Stefano. She speaks English very well, had answers for every question we asked, and is a gourmet cook. The best decision we made was to have Silvia cook three fabulous Tuscan dinners for us. On each of those days, we started out early and were able to enjoy long days exploring towns in the surrounding area, knowing we didn't have to worry about dinner or how much wine we drank to accompany it. We had planned to do a mix of restaurant dinners, meals that we would prepare in the villa kitchen, and one dinner prepared by Silvia. But when we learned of Silvia's skills in the kitchen and came to grips with the fact that we all wine and none of us was prepared to be a 'designated driver', we changed our plans - the best decision we could have made. You will need a car, GPS, good map of Tuscany, a good navigator in the passenger seat, and a driver comfortable with very winding roads. Everybody visits Florence and Siena, but do not miss out on the incredible mountain towns that are everywhere throughout Tuscany. San Gimingnano and Volterra made a good day trip, as did Montepulciano and Montalcino. But the villa is so beautiful it was always a tough decision - relax or go exploring. IMT, Quebec

colleen and friends

A group of 7 Adults stayed just last week (October 2011) at this lovely villa in the heart of Chianti.... We had such a wonderful experience, we cannot fully put into words... Silvia, Stephano and their beautiful son, were a delight.! They went out of their way to accomodate our needs, anticipated our questions, help us with local event planning and attention while we our stayed in their beautiful villa. Silva prepared the most excellent Birthday Dinner for our four 60 year olds and her culinary skills are exceptional! She made our stay most memorable. I would highly recommend this place as a vacation destination. It does take a adventurous spirt as the historic roads closest to the villa are dirt and require some verve coming up the driveway. But so worth the heavenly views! Coleen, CA

Family trip 2011

Our family had a terrific time while staying at Il Giardo. The photos on the web site did not do justice to this wonderful Villa with a magnificent view. The property was in great condition and had all of the amenities we could ask for. It felt as if we were guests in someone's home filled with beauty and history. Sylvia, the hostess couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. She will prepare you a wonderful meal if you request. The Villa was a bit of a challenge to find. A GPS is a must for driving around the area. Took a little longer to get to Greve than I thought it would. Nothing much in Lucelena. Not as easy as being closer to a city but the gorgeous grounds, lovely home and incredible view made it worth any inconvenience. I looked for months for a Villa and was not disappointed in our great find. Gelato lover, USA

An amazing villa with wonderful hosts!

Villa Giardo is an undiscovered gem, the kind that is booked a year in advance by the handful of people who know about it. My wife and I have traveled extensively in Europe and are very particular about accommodation and service; our week long stay in June 2015 exceeded all expectations and has left us with incredible memories. We could not recommend highly enough! Anonymous
